Pedals, wheels and controllers as keyboard controls

Use a racing wheel pedal, a joystick or a gamepad as keyboard controls in any Windows game or program. It started as a sewing-machine pedal for the game Dress Maker.

Checking the latest version…

Free. Nothing to install: unzip it and run PedalSpace.exe. Windows 10 or 11. Settings are kept in your own user folder; delete the folder and it is gone.

New in 1.2.1 Latest

Letting off the pedal is quick again. It no longer keeps tapping the slow-down key after you lift your foot, and pressing the pedal again works straight away.

Have 1.2.0? Open it and it will offer the update.

Getting started
  1. Make a profile. PedalSpace asks on first run. Start blank or from the Dress Maker preset.
  2. Connect your controller. On a gamepad the right trigger is the pedal. For a wheel or pedal set, click Set up pedal, push it all the way, then let go.
  3. Click into your game and play. Hover anything in PedalSpace to see what it does.
Windows says "Windows protected your PC"

That is normal for small free programs that are not code-signed. Click More info, then Run anyway. It only asks once.

Is it safe? What it does and doesn't do
  • It reads your controller and presses keys in the window in front. Nothing else.
  • It never sees what you type and installs nothing. Your settings are one file in your user folder.
  • It checks this site for updates when it starts, sending only its version number. You can turn that off.
  • Some online games treat pressed-for-you keys as a macro. Use it in single-player games, or check the game's rules.

In a command prompt in your download folder, run:

If it matches, the file is exactly the one we published. If not, don't run it, and tell us on Discord.

The source code is kept in a private repository for now.
